The Shenandoah Valley is a 200-mile ribbon of historic significance. Throughout its long history, it's been revered as one of the most bountiful and beautiful regions of North America, bounded by mountain ranges and nourished by the Shenandoah River.

Native Americans lived here as long as thirteen thousand years ago. Settlers came, attracted to the fertile farmland. The "Warriors Path," now Route 11, was long used to traverse the Valley and was surveyed by George Washington. Passing through here were frontiersman Daniel Boone, future presidents Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and Jackson, and Civil War Generals Robert E. Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson and J.E.B. Stuart and their armies.

Today, centuries-old homes and farms abound, and the tiny towns and villages preserve their history in many ways. Just a few miles away is Old Town Winchester, which has been a vital marketplace for more than 250 years. Its 45-block national Register Historic District offers beautiful architecture and local history, plus quaint shops and cafes on the pedestrian mall.
